Brooklyn’s free Black community attracted people from all walks of life, who sought to grow their city in a radical antip-slavery vision. Prithi Kanakamedala, Professor of History at Bronx Community College will discuss her book Brooklynites: the Remarkable Story of the Free Black Communities that Shaped a Borough, which recovers the lives of the remarkable citizens and considers their lasting impact on NYC. Hard Hat Tour of the Lott House
Step behind the scenes and join us for an exclusive hard hat tour of the Hendrick I. Lott House. The house, which is currently closed to the public, is a living time capsule of New York City’s history and will explore the 283 years of one of Brooklyn’s oldest families.
This guided tour will give you a rare opportunity to learn more about the history of the Lott family, their farmhouse, and one of the oldest settled neighborhoods in Brooklyn, have an in-depth look at three centuries of architectural fabric, and learn more about the upcoming restoration and renovations to preserve the historic landmark.
Please note you must be 18 years or older to join this tour. All guests must sign a waiver upon arrival at the Lott House.

Green-Wood's Battle of Brooklyn Family Day
Join the Lott House at Green-Wood's Battle of Brooklyn Family Day! Step back in time to August 1776 and experience the excitement of the Battle of Brooklyn, the largest battle of the Revolutionary War and the first to take place after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Step into a Revolutionary-era farmer's boots and imagine daily life farming in Brooklyn — including the tools, techniques, and challenges they faced under British occupation. See and touch farm tools from our collection and discover the history of Flatlands farmers during the Revolution.
This program is part of Battle Week organized by our friends at the Old Stone House.

Food has always been connected to the health and wellness of the human body—used as medicine, or as an explanation for illness. In the 19th century, there was a boom in health trends and diet fads associated with food—vegetarianism, avoidance of spices, and water-cures, to name a few. In January, Catherine and Mary explore why the 19th century saw such a focus on diet and wellness and look at some of the fads of the age.

Bloom Into Spring: Seed Ball Workshop
Celebrate the arrival of spring at our historic farmhouse! Join us for a fun and educational day as we kick off the season with a hands-on event designed for the whole family! You’ll have the chance to prepare your very own seed balls composed of clay, seeds, and potting soil, which are little clay-covered balls of seeds and potting soil, that you can plant to grow, their benefits for the environment, and the simple steps to get them growing.
Participants will also leave with their own flower seed kits, perfect for planting to bring a burst of color to your home!
Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a beginner, this is the perfect opportunity to get your hands dirty, learn something new, and usher in the beauty of spring in an inspiring and historic setting.

Wonderous Wreaths: Crafting Workshop
Join us for a delightful afternoon of creativity and togetherness at our Wreath-Making Workshop! Participants will be guided by wild forager Aly Stoffo, the Glam Gardener NYC, to learn about the many plants on the Lott House lawn that are perfect for crafting their seasonal wreaths. After foraging, Aly will lead everyone through the art of making a wreath from scratch using wild plants, dried flowers, and natural materials.
This workshop is for everyone. No prior crafting experience is necessary—just a willingness to have fun! Attendees will be provided with all the materials to craft a wreath and take one home as part of this workshop.
Tickets are $12. Registration is required.

Into the Wild: Foraging and Discovering at the Lott House
Join us at the Lott House for a children’s program about foraging in our backyard with Aly Stoffo, the Glam Gardener NYC! Aly will guide the children around the ¾ acres of the Lott House to learn about the many wild edible plants that grow right in our backyard! After foraging, the group will dive into a wildcrafting activity and make their own fall-inspired broom wreath with the plants they harvested!
This is a free event and requires registration. As a gentle reminder, this workshop is intended exclusively for children, and adults' participation is limited to chaperoning roles only. Please only register for the amount of children participating in this workshop.

Wild Herbal Discovery: Tea Party
Join us for a children’s tea party at the Lott House! This hands-on workshop promises an exciting journey into the world of wild plants and herbal tea crafting. Guided by Aly Stoffo, the Glam Gardener NYC, children will explore the art of herbal tea crafting, learning how to create, brew, and enjoy their personalized herbal infusions. After we forage for wild plants and learn about some of their uses, children will be guided through the process of making individualized tea blends with wild plants and common herbal plants like chamomile, hibiscus, and mint. As a group, we will craft a wild pesto with plants that we harvest, and attendees will finish the workshop by enjoying a personalized cup of wild tea and a bite of wild pesto!

Building Brooklyn: Dutch-American Historic House Shuttle Tour
Join Historic House Trust to explore four historic sites across Brooklyn with Dutch roots. Travel by shuttle to four historic sites, enjoying crafts, activities, and delicious treats along the way. Learn about the lives of the people that lived and worked in these places including the Lenape, Dutch settlers, and enslaved Africans.
Shuttles will be operating on a rotating schedule from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, stopping at the participating sites below. You can choose your own adventure, hopping off the shuttle to explore and grab a bite, and hopping back on to check out another site and neighborhood.

Green Thumbs: Salve Making
Join us at the Hendrick I. Lott House Museum for a children's program about foraging in our backyard with Aly Stoffo, AKA the Glam Gardener, wild food forager and owner of Glam Gardener NYC! Aly will guide the children around the 3/4 acres at the Lott House to learn about 5+ wild edible plants that grow in Brooklyn!
After foraging wild plants and learning about their uses, the children will get into a wildcrafting activity to learn how to make something with our harvested plants. For this wildcrafting activity, we'll be crafting natural salves that can be used as lip balms, healing lotions, and natural bug repellent!
Aly will guide the children through the process of making a natural salve with wild plants, essential oils, local beeswax, and natural oils. All attendees will leave with one personal salve they customize at the workshop and then take it home.
Please note this workshop involves using a camping stove to craft salves, so a chaperone must always accompany their children.

July is National Ice Cream month! Celebrate America’s favorite dessert with an interactive ice cream workshop the Hendrick I. Lott House Museum!
